Get ready for a magical event as Santa Claus makes a special journey from the North Pole to visit our studio on Sunday, December 3rd!

You are personally invited to join us for our Santa Minis and experience the magic, and fun, of the holiday season. This event offers you a private 10-minute photo session with Santa himself! It's not just a photoshoot; it's a one-on-one meet and greet with Santa that promises to be filled with memories to cherish.

Event Details

  • Date: Sunday, December 3, 2023

  • Location: Our Studio, 6 N. Court St. Ste B, Westminster, MD 21157

  • Cost: $50 per session

One Digital File is included with your session! Prints, products, gifts, and additional files are available for purchase through a private online gallery.

Our studio provides an intimate (read small 😉) setting, perfect for capturing those cherished one-on-one moments with Santa. This event caters to families, children, business owners seeking engaging holiday content, and even our furry four-legged friends!

For families with more than three children visiting Santa, we highly recommend scheduling two sessions. Sessions for 1-3 children are designed for a shared 10-minute timeframe. It's important to note that our space is limited, and we're unable to accommodate more than five individuals, which includes Santa, for a portrait on our backdrop. If you'd like to have your photos taken together, friends and family members are welcome to combine session times. Thank you for your understanding!

I truly cannot believe that it’s this time of year again. Where has 2023 gone?! Time just seems to be flying! But despite the feeling of time disappearing, I can't help but feel a wave of excitement each year as this particular event approaches. It holds a special place in my heart and manages to effortlessly kickstart the holiday spirit and fun of the season. The atmosphere is relaxed, the laughter is real, and the moments we make are ones that you'll remember. I hope you'll come join us!

This year we have bunnies Bandit & Marv (yes, after the Wet Bandits on Home Alone 😂… although the name Bandit seemed more fitting than Harry), both teal and yellow backdrops to choose from, and spring flowers!

School Picture Day Mini Session Event

If you homeschool your kids, your child missed their school picture day, or just want a fresh and fun take on traditional school photos, join us for our upcoming School Picture Day Mini Session Event on Friday, November 11th (Veterans Day).

SESSION FEE: $15/PER CHILD (ALL DIGITAL FILES AND PRINTS ARE SOLD SEPARATELY)

For those of you who may not know, I was homeschooled – 1st through 12th grade and I absolutely loved it! School Picture Day for my sisters and me meant that we all went to Sears Portrait Studio in the Town Mall, or back then it was called The Cranberry Mall. If you want to know the truth, I hated picture day. I loathed getting dressed up and told to smile, then told “Mary, smile for real… your smile looks so fake!”. It was fake because the whole process was about as much fun as stubbing your toe. I often think back to those days and laugh at the irony of life… now I’m the adult behind the camera! However, because of my experience as a child getting professional pictures taken, it is always my goal to make photo sessions actually fun and enjoyable! To make genuine smiles easy to find.

Fall Portrait Session Inspo!

It’s that time of year again… to update your family photos! The weather is starting to cool off (praise the Lord!), vacations are coming to an end, and back-to-school shopping is in full swing. Believe it or not, now is also the time to book your Fall Portrait Session for your holiday card and gifts. Due to the popularity of weddings in the fall, our session availability is limited… especially on the weekends. If you’d like to schedule a portrait session, now is the time… before it’s too late! October is especially busy this year, so if you’re hoping for some fall color I truly wouldn’t wait. Below are a few ideas to plan your session this year!

Session Inspiration

Late Summer:

  • Pick wildflowers or sunflowers together at The Sunflower Gardens in Westminster

  • Peach Picking at Baugher’s Orchard or Larriland Farms

  • Visit a carnival or fair (the Howard County Fair is this week, the Maryland State Fair is Aug. 25-Sept. 11, and the Frederick Fair is Sept. 16-24th)

  • Go out for ice cream or a snowball while the weather is still warm (Pocantico Creamery in Union Bridge, Pintango Gelato in Fells Point, Simmons Homemade Ice Cream in Hampstead, & Jessica’s Snowballs in Woodbine are all great options… but there are many more to choose from!)

Fall:

  • Go for a hike/nature walk (Piney Run Park, The Howard County Conservancy, Caledonia State Park, Gambrill State Park, & Catoctin Mountain Park, etc.)

  • Pumpkin or Apple Picking at Baugher’s or Larriland

  • Visit a pretty park or venue (Cold Saturday Farm, William Paca House and Gardens, The Tannery Barn … to just name a few!)

  • Grab a coffee and go for a walk downtown (downtown Frederick is my favorite urban location around, but parts of downtown Westminster, Baltimore, and Annapolis are great too!)

In-Home Session Ideas:

  • Rake leaves and create a good jumping pile!

  • Bake a pie or make candy apples together

  • Have a bonfire and make some s’mores… tabletop fire bowls, or your fireplace work too!

  • Cozy up on the couch (read stories, snuggle, drink a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, etc.)

  • Carve pumpkins

  • Play with your pets and/or take your dog for a walk around your neighborhood

  • build a blanket fort together

  • play a family football game in the yard (or tag, kickball, dodgeball, soccer, etc.)

Hey, local businesses and fellow friends who buy local!

This post is a little different than most, but my niece and nephew are doing some pretty cool things and this proud aunt wants to share about it!

My niece, Gwen, and nephew, Hudson, are showing their market goats at the Carroll County 4-H & FFA Fair (July 30th-August 6th) in a few weeks, then hoping to sell said market goats (4 total) at the Livestock Sale on Friday night, August 5th. If you’re a local business in Carroll County, the sale is a wonderful opportunity to promote your business (also there are tax benefits for most) while supporting a great cause. AND/OR if you’re like me and like to buy locally, humanely-raised meat, the livestock sale is a great place to do so while supporting some great kids.

I’ve watched both Gwen and Hudson work so hard this year on this 4-H project, not only do they care for their goat’s physical needs, but they’ve worked really hard to train them for the show ring. If you’ve never been around a goat, they’re really stubborn animals, and training and working with them is a hard-earned, character-building, often frustrating experience. I’ve watched Gwen and Hudson’s confidence grow, and seen their persistence and perseverance over the past several months and I could not be more proud of them!

For those interested I’ve copied the following from my niece Gwen’s letter to potential buyers:

Facts about goat meat:

  • Per 3oz. of goat meat there are 122 calories, 23g of protein, and 2.6 g of fat

  • Goat meat is a leaner alternative to traditional meats, being low in cholesterol and high in protein. It’s lower in calories than both beef (179 calories) and chicken (162 calories).

  • Goat meat is high in Iron. Goat meat has 3.2 milligrams of iron per serving, trumping beef’s 2.9 milligrams, and doubling chicken’s 1.5 milligrams.

  • Goat meat is also free of any growth hormones. Hudson and I have been extremely specific and careful in what we feed our goats, to not only do our best to produce the highest quantity of meat per animal but also make sure, to the best of our ability, that the meat is high quality and rich in nutrients.

The following are a few facts regarding the Carroll County 4-H & FFA Fair specifically:

  • To save time checking in on the day of the sale, the Sale Committee is requesting that buyers fill out a Buyer Pre-Registration Form. If purchasing via cowbuyer.com please indicate your Buyer number on the registration form.

  • Once an animal is purchased at the sale the buyer will be asked to select a processor. The processor is where the animal will be taken to be butchered for steaks, chops, ground meat, roasts, and just made from the animal based on your choosing. Once completed, the processor will contact you to pick up your meat, packaged similarly to what you would see at the grocery store.

  • The majority of the money made from the sale will go back to the individual kids to help them purchase their next year’s project, along with feed and supplies. No funds collected from the sale go to salaries, as 4-H is run by volunteers who donate their time. The auction will keep a small portion to help pay for the expenses of the sale such as supplies, equipment., etc.

  • Once you purchase an animal at the sale, The Sale Committee and Volunteers will take care of hauling your purchased livestock to the processor, so you will not be responsible for or have to worry about the transportation.

  • If you would like to participate in the sale but would like to donate the animal back you are welcome to do so. When animals are donated back they will be resold at a livestock auction and the money will be given to a charity of your choosing.

  • In most cases, your purchase is tax-deductible. Please consult your tax advisor, as everyone's situation is different.

  • Purchasing an animal at the sale is a great way to promote your business or company! Many businesses around Carroll County will have the animal processed and use the meat as gifts for the employees, or use the meat for employee picnics, etc.

  • If you have more questions about the sale specifically, please feel free to contact Ramona Rawlings and Deanna Geiman at sale@carrollcountyfair.com

Summer Beach Portrait Sessions

I love photographing portrait sessions at the beach! It’s so fun to have unique and meaningful locations for portrait sessions, and being able to photograph my clients while they’re on vacation and spending time with those they love is such a joy!

Due to a busy summer schedule, my availability for beach sessions is pretty limited this year, that’s not to say that some dates might open up (feel free to email with special requests), but currently, it’s looking like the only available dates I’ll have for beach sessions are:

  • May 24th

  • July 16th & 17th

  • August 13th & 14th

Beach portrait sessions are priced the same as portrait sessions locally ($250 Session Fee, all digital files prints, and products are sold separately at an ordering appointment) and there is no travel fee to any of the Deleware Beaches. We do have a $50 travel fee to Ocean City, MD, and our current Mother’s Day Sale is not applicable to beach sessions due to current gas prices.

If you’d like to snag one of our available sessions click the button below!

Easter Bunny Mini Session Event

I decided, rather last minute, to host an Easter Mini Session Event at the studio and I couldn't be more excited about it! The details have finally all come together and I’d like to personally invite you, and your kiddo(s) to join us next weekend, April 9th & 10th, for pictures at the studio with the most adorable, fluffiest, baby bunny.

I have on good authority that she works for the actual Easter Bunny. She tells me that she, and many of her friends, work as “messengers” for the Easter Bunny, bringing him back intel before he hides all the eggs on Easter Sunday.

We hope you’ll join us!

The Details:

10-minute Studio Mini Session (on a lilac backdrop)

  • $15 Session Fee per child*

  • All digital files, prints, products, etc. will be sold separately in a convenient online web gallery. No minimum purchase requirement.

*Session times can be combined if you have more than one child, simply email me at mary@marybrunst.com and I’ll adjust the schedule.

    **No cell phone pictures, please

SANTA IS COMING!!! December 18th

It’s been 9 years since our last picture day with Santa (pictured below… look how tiny my niece was!), and now that we’re all settled in at the studio I thought what better time to ask him to come back to visit with us from the North Pole?!

Santa will be with us all day on Saturday, December 18th! Come visit with him and get your photo taken! We’re going to have so much fun, I can hardly wait!

This time all photos will be taken on a white backdrop, for simple, modern, and beautiful portraits with the jolly man himself. It’s going to be beautiful!

Charleston, SC - Vacay Recap!

Last Memorial Day weekend Gordon and I went to Charleston, SC for our Anniversary. It was AWESOME! We both had never been before and truly loved it… and basically ate our way through the city lol – everything from doughnuts and coffee for breakfast, to the best seafood anniversary dinner at Hyman's.

When I’m on vacation, I’ll be honest, I really only photograph for fun and the photos are always just a bunch of random happy snaps. When I get home, I’m often playing catch-up on work from the time I took off and the photos sit on the hard drive for months until I get a chance to go through them. Hence why this blog post is almost 4 months overdue!

So the photos somewhat make sense, to those who are interested, our Itinerary was as follows:

Friday: (no photos from Friday… whoops!)

We checked in to our adorable Airbnb, which I wish I would’ve photographed! Haha whoops! It was so cute! Then went to Sullivan’s Island to check out the beach and had dinner at Poe’s Tavern. Gordon loved the atmosphere at Poe’s, but we both felt like the food was pretty average. However, Sullivan’s Island was cute and I loved how everyone drove their golf cart everywhere!

Saturday:

We spent the morning exploring downtown Charleston– had the best doughnuts from Glazed, walked the Battery (not over-rated at ALL, we both LOVED it!), checked out the adorable Rainbow Row, walked through City Market, and basically walked all over downtown (so cute! I’m obsessed with all the flower boxes and stunning architecture!)

Those who know Gordon probably know that his favorite foods are cheeseburgers and hot dogs, so for lunch, he found Jack’s Cosmic Hot Dogs in Mt. Pleasant – and let me tell you, they did not disappoint! So fun and completely delicious! Ridiculously so.

From there we drove out to Folly Beach and I got the biggest pineapple whip served in half of a pineapple from The Pineapple Hut… hey, when in Rome right?! Folly Beach definitely has the beach party vibe, which isn’t really my thing, but we enjoyed it despite the WIND! It was SO WINDY!

We stopped at the famous Bowen’s Island Restaurant for dinner on the way back (Gordon got their fried shrimp and I chose their Frogmore Stew). It was beautiful, we sat on the deck overlooking the water and watching the sunset… as well as a wedding happening on the dock below us.

Sunday:

I think Sunday was one of our favorite days of the trip! Gordon is a big WWII history buff, and both of us enjoy American History in general. We spent the morning exploring Fort Sumter, it was so amazing - you can still see some of the cannonballs lodged in the brick remnants, and the fingerprints in the bricks from the slave children who made them. It’s unbelievable to see.

We then spent the rest of the day at Patriots Point exploring the USS YORKTOWN, USS LAFFEY Destroyer, and their Vietnam Experience. It was truly awesome and incredible to see. Touring the USS YORKTOWN was one of the biggest highs of the trip for both of us!

Monday:

Monday was our actual anniversary (5/31)! Year 2! Last year we watched the sunrise on a pier in Annapolis, so this year it felt fitting to watch the surnise on the beach in the Isle of Palms. Isle of Palms was by far our favorite beach near Charleston! It’s absolutely beautiful and the water was so warm! We walked the beach and collected oyster shells… while drinking some Dunkin’ ;). It was perfect.

For breakfast, we went to Millers All Day where I ordered a cheeseburger… for breakfast. I’ve never had a cheeseburger for breakfast before, but I have to tell you, this was hands-down the best cheeseburger I’ve ever had. Highly recommend Miller’s All Day! The food was SO good and the Mid-Century decor was so my jam! I loved it!

We then drove out to Middleton Place, which was my personal favorite part of the trip! The gardens were stunning! We saw the oldest tree in America, a few alligators swimming, read about the rice fields and history of the plantation, and explored their entire property. The weather was perfect and it was the most peaceful afternoon walking around the plantation. I truly loved it and cannot wait to go back!

On our way back to downtown we stopped at Timbo’s Boiled Peanuts and Gordon made friends with Timbo while I snapped a few photos. Neither Gordon nor I had ever had boiled peanuts before so we thought we’d try them… yep, they’re weird. And mushy. Those of you from the South, why is this a thing? I truly don’t mean to be offensive, haha, but I really don’t get it! LOL

Later that afternoon we checked in to the Planters Inn, then got ready for our dinner at Hyman’s Seafood. Where in the words of Gordon we “ordered huge” lol… everything from the drinks (bloody mary for him, old-fashioned for me) to dessert was delicious… but more than that, Hyman’s was genuinely an experience! The service was great and the atmosphere was so fun and casual! We had a great time.

Tuesday:

We spent a leisurely morning downtown getting coffee and walking the City Market, got breakfast at Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, then hit the road to make the trip home. It truly was a great weekend! So grateful!

The Front Steps Project - In Summary

The reason Mary Brunst Photography exists is to document goodness and joy, it’s been a part of our mission statement from the very beginning. Participating in #thefrontstepsproject was a wonderful way to do that while serving our community here in MD as well as to help those in need. It’s truly my desire that each family I have photographed keeps the photo I gave them to remember the good moments that happened during this quarantine, despite the fear and uncertainty.
