The Front Steps Project - In Summary

Boston photographer Cara Soulia, and her friend Kristen Collins, came up with the idea for #TheFrontStepsProject over a up over a cup of coffee. They started the project in Needham, MA on March 17, 2020, as a way to “highlight the faces of our community during a time when we might not see them in passing at the grocery store, coffee shop, on the train or at the gym.”

I’m so grateful to these two women for sharing their brilliant idea and for inviting photographers from all over the country to join them. It’s been such a blessing and an amazing project to be apart of!

The reason Mary Brunst Photography exists is to document goodness and joy, it’s been a part of our mission statement from the very beginning. Participating in #thefrontstepsproject was a wonderful way to do that while serving our community here in MD as well as to help those in need. It’s truly my desire that each family I have photographed keeps the photo I gave them to remember the good moments that happened during this quarantine, despite the fear and uncertainty.

I would like to personally thank everyone who participated in this project and donated to help those immunocompromised. I intended on ending my participation in this project on May 1st due to other business demands, but because of several rain days I took our last photo for the project this afternoon. The following is a summary of all that we accomplished together for #theFrontStepsProject between March 22nd and May 15th:

  • 180 families photographed

  • 143 donors on GoFundMe

  • $6,884 dollars raised for charity

  • 3350 miles driven

  • 72 hours spent in the car

  • 9 hours spent photographing

  • 45 hours spent editing images

  • 35 hours scheduling & mapping out routes

  • 6 hours spent emailing participants
