RMSP Catalog Cover
I am always amazed at what can happen in one year’s time. Life seems to be flying by so quickly that it is hard to realize how much change one year can actually bring, and how many opportunities it can provide.
A year ago I attended PDN’s PhotoPlus Expo in New York City; I try to go, to at least the trade show part of it, every year to visit with friends, check out different product vendors (side note, I’m SO STOKED about the new fine art books we will be offering in 2014! Stay tuned!) and to see the latest industry trends.
As it always is, last year provided to be a great day meeting with friends and geeking out over gear, that is until my friend Kristin and I were late catching the Megabus back to Baltimore that night. We arrived to the bus just in time, squeezed through the crowded aisle and looked for ANY available seats. I was thinking to myself that it was going to be a long awkward ride back to Baltimore when I heard this girl say, as she was moving her bags with “Canon” stamped on the front, that I could sit next to her. Before I knew it we had talked about Chase Jarvis, Sue Bryce, camera gear, Creative Live, what kind of photography we enjoyed and what we found inspiring. By the end of the trip we had exchanged business cards and a promise to find each other on facebook. Photoplus led to a bus trip, the bus trip led to a new friend, a new friend led to a new facebook friend, facebook led to a Model Call-out photo session with my new friend Paulina, a Model Call-out photo session led to the cover of Rocky Mountain School of Photography’s 2o14 catalog cover!
Whew! I know that is a lengthy back story, but I just find so much encouragement from how God orchestrates all of the seemingly insignificant details into making what I thought was a pipe dream come true! When Andy Kemmis from RMSP called me earlier this year asking if I would be willing to do an alumni interview for the school and to submit a few images, I was absolutely honored and thrilled, but I never imagined that my first cover would come out of it. Having dreamed over the RMSP catalog for a few years before attending, and waiting anxiously for it to come in the mail every fall since attending, I couldn’t feel more honored, blessed, humbled, excited and giddy over having my image on the front cover. Thank you to those of you who have given me so much love, support, encouragement and high fives to pursue this dream of mine. I am so blessed!
Yesterday I went up to the PDN Photo Plus Expo again, and it was so crazy to think that the face of a girl that I met a year ago, was now on a the cover of a catalog being passed out at the B&H Booth! If you’re at PhotoPlus this weekend be sure to stop by and check it out! Here are a few Instagram snapshots from yesterday if you want to take a look :).
